For this post, you need to create an epigram for one of the following characters: Nick, Tom, Daisy, or Jordan. You will place the epigram on the picture of one of those characters (find from the movie). Below the image, write in five sentences why you chose this particular epigram for that character.
An epigram is a short but insightful statement, often in verse form, which communicates a thought in a witty, paradoxical, or funny way. (look online for an epigram to use)
The reasons for using epigrams are plentiful.
- They cause the reader or listener to think a bit more about the statement being made.
- They are examples of pure humor.
- They all leave an impression.
On page four of chapter one in the novel there is an epigram of Nick. Don't use this one on your blog but you can use it as an example.

Mrs. Carn's Example
I chose this particular epigram for the character of Daisy. So far in the novel Daisy seems very self absorbed. She is very concerned with people knowing of her and missing her when she is not present. She asks of Nick when he first arrives in her home if people are missing her back in Chicago. Her voice is represented in such a way that she wants people to grasp at her words. I think it would be a great tragedy to Daisy if people were not speaking of her or admiring her in some way. I feel that she even brings up the bruise on her hand simply to gain attention...because even if people are talking poorly of her or her situation...at least they're talking! Daisy wants to be known.
